Proverbs 10:1

He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs were 1,005.

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

A wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish man despises his mother.

He who begets a fool does so to his grief, And the father of a wicked fool is not glad.

A foolish son is a vexation to his father And bitterness to her who gave birth to him.

The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, And he who begets a wise son will be glad in him.

Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad, That I may respond with a word to him who reproaches me.

A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad, But he who befriends harlots destroys his wealth.

The rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; And he will give delight to your soul.
