Numbers 35:2

‘As for cities of the Levites, the Levites have a permanent right of redemption for the houses of the cities which are their possession.

‘But pasture fields of their cities shall not be sold, for that is their perpetual possession.

“Now if a Levite comes from any of your gates of the towns throughout Israel where he sojourns and comes whenever he desires to the place which Yahweh chooses,

Thus the sons of Israel did just as Yahweh had commanded Moses, and they divided the land.

Then the heads of households of the Levites came near to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of households of the tribes of the sons of Israel.

And they spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, “Yahweh commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to live in, with their pasture lands for our cattle.”

So the sons of Israel gave to the Levites the cities with their pasture lands.

For the Levites left their pasture lands and their possession of land and went to Judah and Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from ministering as priests to Yahweh—

Also for the sons of Aaron the priests who were in the pasture lands of their cities, or in each and every city, there were men who were designated by name to distribute portions to every male among the priests and to everyone genealogically recorded among the Levites.
