Joshua 20:7

“But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God let him fall into his hand, then I will appoint you a place to which he may flee.

“And the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the manslayer to flee to; and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities.

“Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

Then Moses set apart three cities across the Jordan to the east toward the sunrise,

if you be careful to do all this commandment which I am commanding you today, to love Yahweh your God and to walk in His ways all your days—then you shall add three more cities for yourself, besides these three.
