Jonah 3:6

Now Mordecai came to know of all that had been done. And he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the midst of the city and cried out loudly and bitterly.

And he took a potsherd to scrape himself while he was sitting among the ashes.

In their streets they have girded themselves with sackcloth; On their rooftops and in their squares Everyone is wailing, dissolved in weeping.

Yet the king and all his servants who heard all these words were not in dread, nor did they tear their garments.

The elders of the daughter of Zion Sit on the ground; they are silent. They have thrown dust up on their heads; They have girded themselves with sackcloth. The virgins of Jerusalem Have bowed their heads down to the ground.

“Then all the princes of the sea will go down from their thrones, remove their robes, and strip off their embroidered garments. They will clothe themselves with trembling; they will sit on the ground, tremble every moment, and be appalled at you.

And they will make their voice heard over you And will cry bitterly. They will cast dust on their heads; They will wallow in ashes.

“And I will give authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.”
