Isaiah 22:12

Now it will be that instead of sweet perfume there will be the smell of rot; Instead of a belt, a rope; Instead of well-set hair, a plucked-out scalp; Instead of fine clothes, a donning of sackcloth; And branding instead of beauty.

Though the wicked is shown favor, He does not learn righteousness; He deals unjustly in the land of uprightness, And does not perceive the majesty of Yahweh.

Woe, O Ariel, Ariel the city where David once camped! Add year to year, observe your feasts on schedule.

Tremble, you women who are at ease; Quake, you complacent daughters; Strip, undress, and put sackcloth on your waist,

‘Why have we fasted and You do not see? Why have we afflicted our souls and You do not know?’ Behold, on the day of your fast you find your desire, And oppress all your workers.

“For this, I gird myself with sackcloth, Lament and wail; For the burning anger of Yahweh Has not turned back from us.”

‘Cut off your hair and cast it away, And lift up a funeral lamentation on the bare heights; For Yahweh has rejected and abandoned The generation of His wrath.’

“Both great men and small will die in this land; they will not be buried; they will not be lamented, nor will anyone gash himself or shave his head for them.

“Moreover you shall not go into a house of feasting to sit with them to eat and drink.”

“Also they will make themselves bald for you And gird themselves with sackcloth; And they will weep for you in bitterness of soul With bitter mourning.

Belshazzar the king held a great feast for one thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine in the presence of the thousand.

Do not be glad, O Israel, with rejoicing like the peoples! For you have played the harlot, forsaking your God. You have loved harlots’ earnings on every threshing floor.

Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth For the bridegroom of her youth.

Make yourself bald and cut off your hair, Because of the children of your delight; Extend your baldness like the eagle, For they will go from you into exile.
