Deuteronomy 8:4

‘And your sons shall be shepherds for forty years in the wilderness, and they will suffer for your unfaithfulness, until your corpses come to an end in the wilderness.

“And I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandal has not worn out on your foot.

But You, in Your abundant compassion, Did not forsake them in the wilderness; The pillar of cloud did not depart from them by day, To lead them on their way, Nor the pillar of fire by night, To light for them the way in which they were to go.
