Deuteronomy 17:1

‘If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall bring it near, a male without blemish; he shall bring it near to the doorway of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before Yahweh.

‘Whatever has a defect, you shall not bring it near, for it will not be accepted for you.

‘And you shall bring near a burnt offering to Yahweh as a soothing aroma: one bull from the herd, one ram, seven male lambs one year old, having them without blemish;

“The graven images of their gods you are to burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it, for it is an abomination to Yahweh your God.

“But if it has any defect, such as lameness or blindness, or any serious defect, you shall not sacrifice it to Yahweh your God.
